Beautiful Day in City Park, New Orleans, Louisiana

Grand Val de Grace by Jean-Robert Ipousteguy

I spent a beautiful day in New Orleans.  The day began with a chill in the air, and I started out in boots and a sweater.  We bought some groceries.  I changed into my sandals, and we had a lovely picnic in City Park.  Afterwards we played in the Sculpture Garden.

Voting for Old Men (a poem)

Old men talking politics, only to agree with each other
The camaraderie of fear
Fighting against the changing world
Voting only for stodgy old men like themselves
Do people still use the "n" word in regular conversation without self-consciousness?
The disconnect of generations
The fear of the truth
The ever changing world, an evolving culture and society
A mind closed to fresh perspectives
Drinking beer and Fox News
Confident and white
Egotistic and male
A dying breed
            I hope

Please come take us away
Orlan and I would like to escape
To a land of tranquility and grace
To a land of kindness and faith
Utopia or the land of the benign
Peaceful and quiet I paint
Joyful in play Orlan sings
A land of both structure and creative flair
Dancing with wind or the peace of space
Star gazing, moon gazing, Earth gazing, too
You and I and Orlan, too

Bees and Marigolds in South Mississippi

It is the first day of November and my marigolds are still blooming profusely.
