Orlan and I moved to Mississippi in 2000.  We did some therapeutic home improvement that year.  I did my best to bring new life to my childhood bedroom.  That red carpet is still one of the interior design details that reoccurs in my dreams.  Bright red, stained carpet is such a strong, strong memory.

In Preparation for St. Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is approximately one month away.  Whether you have money to spend or not, please enjoy perusing these lovely things.
I have no money (or a honey), but I do have heart-shaped cookie cutters and cake pans.  So, I'll probably be baking.
One year, my mother even baked a meatloaf in one of the heart-shaped cake pans.

If you live within about 100 or so miles of New Orleans pick-up some treats from Sucré. If not, you can order some delicious chocolates. If my recollection is correct, my favorite chocolate is rhum.

I created this project as a unique way to include loved ones in a special gift to present at Monica and Jason's baby shower.  I e-mailed a .pdf butterfly template to each family member.  They printed them out, wrote positive messages in their handwriting, scanned the butterflies back in, and e-mailed the new file to me.  It was up to me to make the butterflies fly.

I used jewelry-making wire and pliers to attach the butterflies together.	Orlan studies how to wire a small butterfly.  At one point he jumped on the table for a closer look.
I used decoupage medium to stabilize the wings and seal the messages.

I had the mobile temporarily attached under a ceiling fan.  It was mesmerizing laying beneath it watching the butterflies dance.
	The patterned paper added a whimsical touch.

Plaster Ceiling Bee Motif at Buckland Abbey

I found this searching for something else on the web on a personal blog titled For My Family.  It is a plaster ceiling in the Drake Chamber of Buckland Abbey, the home of Sir Francis Drake.  Through a little research online, I've learned that this plaster work was designed in the late 1980s and finished in 1998 by Jane Schofield in the Devon tradition of hand modeled lime plaster.  The original plaster ceilings were lost in a fire in the 1930s, and the design today was a completely new design.
